Job Description.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Commis Sommelier to join our team at the luxurious Constance Moofushi resort in the Maldives. As a Commis Sommelier, you will work closely with our Head Sommelier to provide exceptional wine service and enhance our guests' dining experiences.
Assist the Head Sommelier in managing the resort's wine cellar and inventory
Provide knowledgeable wine recommendations to guests, considering their preferences and menu selections
Conduct wine tastings and participate in wine education sessions for guests and staff
Maintain accurate records of wine sales and stock levels
Ensure proper storage and handling of wines to maintain their quality
Assist in creating and updating wine lists and menus
Prepare and serve basic cocktails as required
Collaborate with the food and beverage team to enhance wine and food pairings
Maintain a clean and organised work environment
Stay informed about current wine trends and new products in the market
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 1 or 2 certification preferred
Strong knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and production methods
Excellent understanding of food and wine pairing principles
Previous experience in food and beverage service, preferably in a luxury hospitality setting
Exceptional customer service skills with a professional and friendly demeanour
Proficiency in operating Point of Sale (POS) systems
Strong organisational and time management skills
Basic math skills for inventory management and sales reporting
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are an advantage
Passion for continuous learning and staying updated on wine industry trends
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift boxes of wine (up to 20 kg)
